Background Story:
Lanier Cerise was born in 1988 to her parents Steven and Lorraine Cerise in Hawthorne, Nevada. For the early years in her life she was the typical mid-west girl. She had friends and close family, went to school, never got in any serious trouble though she did begin to obtain an independent streak as she grew older.
Throughout middle school, she became less and less inclined to follow her parent’s ideology that anyone who wasn't human was a monster. She didn't care for the varmint laws on the books but she never saw what she could really do about it since all of her neighbors all thought the same way.
When she reached the age of 15 and was getting ready to enter high school, her parents finally reached their limit for her constant change. They knew this might be the only chance to keep tabs on their daughter. But they also knew how badly she wanted to go to high school with her new friends.
They were constantly concerned when she'd come home with scrapes and scratches from unknown sources and always feared the worst: their daughter becoming a lycanthrope.
So, they decided to blackmail her in a way. They would allow her to go to high school with the other kids if she would get the vaccination to prevent lycanthropy. If she didn't, then they would apply to home school her and keep her away from her friends.
Lanier was furious at how they were trying to control her life. For days she was sneak out at night and try and figure out some other way around their rules. However, she soon discovered there was no other alternative to get what she wanted.
She returned to her parents and told them that she'd agree to get the vaccine. This soon became a rush job performed one afternoon when she came home with a nasty cut on her arm. Her parents simply refused to believe it was anything other than a scratch from a lycanthrope due to their paranoia.
She began school the very next day and her rebellious streak continued. However, that night she seemed to become ill because she was running a high fever. Her parents wanted to rush her to the hospital but she said she'd go in the morning if she still felt bad.
Yet, when she awoke in the morning, she found herself not in her room like when she fell asleep the previous night but far outside of town and she was completely naked with no memory of how she come to be where she was.
Slowly, she began to make it back towards town finding discarded clothing along the way to cover herself with so she wouldn't be naked when she arrived home.
By the time she got there, she discovered sneaking into the house wouldn't help as her parents had called the police and finding her bed room window smashed. When they discovered she had returned, she fed them a lie about having snuck out last night to see her friends. The window had broken when one of her dumb friends thought it smart to get her attention by throwing rocks at the window which shattered.
Being well known in town and the sort of friends she hung out with, this was readily accepted by the police and no report was filed. However, her parents weren't so easily fooled. They had seen the state of her room and hid the evidence that had been left there. The clear liquid that had soaked into the sheets, her shredded clothing, and so on. They confronted her with the truth and they worked out a plan to try and find a way to "fix" their daughter.
Full moon after full moon, they locked her down in a cage in the basement to prevent her from escaping to possibly be killed. Their prejudices seemed to go out the window now that their only child was now a lycanthrope. Eventually, it became evident that there was nothing they could do for their child but send her away to a place without laws that would allow her to be killed on sight but they also knew she couldn't be trusted on her own.
They had heard that back east the varmint laws weren't on the books and lycanthrope groups could be easily found. Once she was "safer" they thought it possible to let her live with some relatives. They immediately set to settling up her emancipation from them at the age of 15 and paid for her one way flight to Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Yet, once she arrived there and searched out a pack that could train her, the pack that took her in had a very corrupt leader. The leader would allow the vampire master in the area to play with his pick of the male wolves for his servants and whatever females of the pack that the pack leader himself wasn't keeping for his own personal pleasure.
Eventually, Lanier had had enough of just dealing with the abuse and hiding the fact her powers were growing enough to defend herself despite the pack leader's best efforts to keep them weak. When she was 18 she set about a plan with the strongest wolves in the pack she could find that weren't loyal to the leader and they broke free from their cells to free as many wolves as they could and to scatter from there.
In her Southerly flight from Iowa, she was crossing through Arkansas when she was stopped by the wolf pack there. She was taken to their pack leader. Lanier withheld any information about her not knowing what they might do should they learn of what happened. However, in the passing days and months, she slowly began to discover they were not the same as the pack she had fled from. And the vampires here weren't as interested in the pack just lycanthropes in general.
After a time, as the pack actually began to help with her with abilities and how to control them, she revealed to the pack leader what had happened and how she came to be there. He had heard of the happenings in Iowa though most thought them to be mere rumors. Instead of sending her away like she assumed they would, they invited her to stay and help her gain enough control of her abilities.
By the time she had reached 25, she had gained nearly perfect control over her abilities as a lycanthrope giving her a better sense of security than she'd ever felt before. Lanier could now remember her time during full moons, shift parts of her body at will, and she became well known in the pack as a protector of those weaker by gaining the ability to heal through touch as well as shielding others from outside forces. She still found herself having issues in some areas but they were becoming few and far between. It was at this point that the pack leader gave her the option to join a pack in a nearby state of Louisiana.
Lanier accepted the opportunity knowing that they would allow her to return her should things not work out for her in Louisiana. Despite her now deep seated tendency towards not trusting anyone, she took her leave of the pack and made her way to Louisiana to see what she could make of a new life for herself away from the past she dearly wanted to forget.
